Love Sale 03:17
The moon shine slowly down in the valley I'm watching the crowds and I'm feeling so lonely When push comes to shove, I've had enough of love Even my rubber glove left me for another guy Love sale, buy now layaway love sale Love sale, cut rate intimate love sale A bargain at half the price for you and your half-life, Love sale. And after the battle, corpses like cattle Meat with medals, pacifist prattle Hold your applause, don't forget your lost cause Ain't nothin' but the alien to save your job. Love sale... A long time ago in the back of my mind I told someone else and she left me behind Love sale, cheap prices, faces carved into the ice Will it take me half as long to live out this half life? Love sale...

Don't confuse reality with what is true I've been looking for somebody worth lying to We can stay up late ripping into each other Manic Depressives make better lovers Give me one more chance, just a little more time How far from here to the finish line? Now don't confuse reality with what is true You ignore me and I'll ignore you I'm an angel, I'm a devil and we're both undercover Manic Depressives make better lovers Don't talk to me about the institution They're one short step from the final solution We know how to get high, we can really go down Don't waste your time with the mediocre Here and now is the band, breaking glass is the sound Don't even bother with the limited joker Take my hand and don't fight back You're all I've got, you're the one I need We can see each other through the cracks

Fearless Cathy, sing your sad song These are the days that will rip proud hearts apart These are the nights when you wake knowing something's gone wrong (So very wrong) Mistress Carrie, dressed in black Blow out the door when there's nothing left to talk about Blow me a kiss, make me wonder if you're ever coming back (But don't turn back) Some burning issue is lodged in your memory Like a face in the crowd that you meet in your dreams Some holy grail is lost in America I feel it too, it's a dying world letting off steam What does it mean? Still in Richmond, waiting for my man Down on the streets I can hear the night's homicide My heart cries out, but my mind just wants to understand. Reckless Eric, lost in the night Somebody calls out your name in an alleyway Alone at last in the past like a legend out of sight Brightly shining, out on the edge Peeping through like a voice on the telephone Misunderstanding, demanding you come in from the ledge What would you do if I did what we talked about? Where would you go if I gave you a map to your dreams? Two suicides throwing pride in the face of it Going down in the night in the pale moonbeams Two silent screams Still in Richmond, trembling with fear I send a postcard, a message in a bottleneck Waiting without, running out of time Wishing you were here.

I'm here for you, you're not here for me The question loiters, lingers in the brain's repository It's like a blood donation, bloody trail behind my tears Nothing but helpless anguish distancing the silent fears Something in me, something in you, something in summer nights Somebody falls, the window calls, salvation in pure memory Can I escape cheap love and hate that haunt me late at night? You're looking good, I'm feeling tired, let's just turn out the light And turn on the dark. There was a girl with glowing eyes, I still see her now as then We had a night between the stars I thought would never end Something inside the other side between the flesh and fear We meet again, we just pretend, we just pretend each other disappear In times to come the earth will burn like falling satellite Numeric counts, trivial amounts, distriction out of sight Meaningless prayers like spirit flares, apocalyptic fright You're looking sharp, it tears my heart, let's just turn out the light And turn on the dark.

Up from the coast comes a heavenly host She's a blue-blooded beauty with a bust to boast You want to hold her attention for a minute at least But turn, turn away - she belongs to the beast You can cry in your coffee for the dreams you lost You can laugh about the tavern where your destinies crossed But steal what you need - it'll never be free Until you borrow from the shelves of the amphetamine library Two hands stay clenched together Two heads are pulling them apart Don't listen when I talk to myself Don't touch me when I wanna be alone Out of these words come desperation I don't ever want to see you again Your cold speech just leaves me so quickly Your empty thoughts are freezing me inside In a dream you chased her fashion face And it felt so good when you lost the race And she was a priestess and you were her priest And you laughed and you laughed, because now you belong to the beast That woman who painted your breakfast black Wants to meet you in the back of the magazine rack To browse all night in aisle 23 Of the Special Collection of the Amphetamine Library You think you're the only one who ever felt this You think you'll never trust anyone again I don't question you, I don't believe in you How could I give to you what you want me to?

about

Amphetamine Library congealed in the dormitories of VCU in 1985. Andy Thompson (lead guitar), Hunter Duke (drums), and Donny Shattuck (bass and vocals) had already been working for a few months as the power trio Black 44 when 17 year-old long-haired Manko Eponymous showed up and started playing solo acoustic sets in the student union pub and the dorm stairwells. They combined forces with Manko adding his electric guitar, voice and weird moody lyrics. Early touchstone influences were Pink Floyd, the Velvet Underground, Jimi Hendrix, Gong and King Crimson, which in hindsight seems weird considering all the drugs they weren't taking. As one old freak was heard to say after the band played their version of "Interstellar Overdrive" in a floodzone bar, "Y'all are way too young to be playing that shit."

A generation later, the surviving four members got together in Nashville to finally record the songs properly. After a brief rehearsal in Andy's basement, they spent a day in the studio recording and then had some celebratory shots of bourbon and went out for Mexican food and margaritas.
